Ingredients. Before we dive into what ingredients make up a candle, let’s get to the root & definition of the word; Ingredients are defined as a component part or element of something. It may come as a surprise to some, but there are many, many components involved in making a candle. 

Some might naturally think that the elements to which make up a candle are just scented wax, a wick, and a jar. While this is the gist of what makes up a candle, it's much more complex. Ok….so what is my point here?  Well, simply put, I'm here to tell you about the ingredients that make up an unparalleled scented La Lueur candle!

I won’t lie. When I founded La Lueur in 2016, I didn’t know much about the making of a candle. What I did know is that I have always loved candles and they sparked a fire in me (no pun intended) so much that I decided to start my own business. Candle making truly started out as a spur of the moment activity that soon turned into a hobby, and then my own small business. 

Starting a business wasn’t something I took lightly…I knew that if I was going to create a candle that I would sell to anyone that was willing to buy from me, I had to create the best of the best product with premium ingredients. 

And I did just that. Although the quality of our ingredients has evolved over the years as I have refined La Lueur’s products, I want to talk about what makes up the main ingredients that are in our candles today: wax, wicks, and oils.
 
OUR WAX
There are a plethora of different waxes on the market used for candles…and trust me, not all waxes are created equal; Paraffin, Soy, Coconut, Beeswax, Hemp Wax, different combinations of these, etc. 

After years of trial & error, testing & resting, disappointment & surprise, I finally created the wax of my candle dreams. La Lueur wax is a blend of a premium vegetable, coconut, apricot wax that is mixed in house by us! Our wax is naturally creamy white, clean burning, biodegradable, non-toxic, skin safe, and vegan. It has excellent hot & cold throw and has a very impressive, even, slow burn that I can honestly say is superior to the majority of waxes I have seen on the market today. 
 
OUR WICKS
Today, each one of our candles are made with 100% cotton wicks sourced in the USA, coated with a natural, high melt wax. A lot of wicks on the market claim they are 100% cotton but are coated in a paraffin wax, which for us, would defeat the purpose of a natural, clean burning candle. The most eco-friendly and natural option for wicks are 100% cotton, hemp and wooden wicks. Any of the three types are great options for wicks. I have found over the years that 100% cotton wicks perform the best in concoction with our specific wax and premium oils. 
 
OUR FRAGRANCE OILS
The star of the show…fragrance is what fills your space with a phenomenal aroma. Our fragrance oils are all custom curated and are made up of essential, naturally derived, and synthetic oils. All of our oils are phthalate free, paraben free, vegan, cruelty free, little to no VOC% and Prop 65 compliant. 

As a female founder, I did my research to make sure nothing could affect my health. I found out Phthalates and Parabens are chemical solvents and are used in candles for binding and shelf life purposes & have been linked to endocrine disruption and can also cause damage to the female reproductive system. 

These are widely used chemicals in household products, skincare, and cosmetics. As a Mom who is hoping to have more children, this is obviously very important to me especially since I am the one making the candles so I smell the fragrances at a super concentrated level. We do not have any of these chemicals in our candles! 
 
Let’s sum it up…
My goal has always been to create a clean, high-performing, luxurious product that I felt proud to sell to people that will burn these in their homes around themselves, their families, and children. Quality and clean ingredients will continue to be the top priority in any La Lueur product. That is my promise to all my customers and future customers. 

My passion for creating elegant, high-performing, all around quality candles doesn’t just stop at the ingredients…I do my absolute best to source quality glass crafted & produced across the world.
